Why?
Things have happened in my life, people have done things that have caused me pain. Though I forgive them I still ask, but why? I don’t understand? Why would they do this? Why would they betray my trust this way? How much of my demands to know why go back to the base of sin, “‘to be like God”; back to desiring ‘The Knowledge of Good and Evil”. In Genesis the serpent tempted Eve to eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, by saying, “For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; (“Gen 3:5-6) Ask as often as I will, understanding of the why seldom comes my way. Now it becomes not a question of understanding why, but having faith in the One who does understand why. The One who could tell me why, but doesn’t. Why doesn’t He tell me? I think if I just knew why, it would ease my pain; but He is my Father with my best interests in His heart. He says in Matthew 7:11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? When my children were small they would want to know the why of things? Sometimes I could answer that, but other times I knew that the why was too complicated for them. The answer was beyond their comprehension. So they had to settle for a partial answer, just enough to get them by. They had to wait until they were older to be able to understand. So it is with me; some of the whys I am going to have to wait until that time when I reach my full maturity in Christ, whether here on earth or in heaven, before I will be able to understand the whys. Perhaps by then they won’t matter anymore. Which ever way, I trust my Heavenly Father with the answer to the whys of life. If it was good for me to know, He would tell me. If it is beyond my comprehension, then He will carry the answer to the whys. That is faith!
