No Food + No Money = Hungry Children
Angela had married Peter because she was pregnant.
Even when she did it she knew that was probably not the right
thing to do. She had lived with him long enough to know that
he wasn’t reliable and wouldn’t ever stay home.
His “business trips” would take him away for periods
of time. She never knew exactly what that “business”
was. She did know that it didn’t pay much judging from
the amount of money he sent home. In her heart she knew that
he kept most of it for himself. She wasn’t even sure if
the money he made was honest and didn’t really want to
know. Deep down inside she knew he wasn’t faithful to
her when he was away.
Now here she was with a nine month old baby girl and Peter’s
four other children by his first marriage, no furniture at all
except for a crib for the baby, no money and five hungry bellies
to fill. She managed to scrounge up a chicken leg, some chicken
bouillon cubes and spaghetti noodles. There was nothing else
in the cupboards. Chicken noodle soup it would be!!!
Angela had been raised to attend church and she believed in
God. Though not attending church anywhere, her belief in the
Lord was still within her. As she prepared the soup she prayed
for the Lord to make it fill the children so they wouldn’t
be hungry. What she was going to do tomorrow she didn’t
know. She asked the Lord to provide for them.
God is an answering God. He hears our prayers, whether we are
active in church or living the life we think should be lived
if we are Christians. His love reached down to Angela and those
children that day. Not only did the children eat until they
were full, that one chicken leg, bouillon cubes and spaghetti
noodles fed them for five more days when money came in and Angela
was able to go buy groceries.
The Lord provided!
